Dermal fillers such as Juvederm have gotten a lot of popularity over the last few years. During this simple cosmetic treatment our Bridgewater, NJ, dermatologists inject a special solution directly into the fine lines, wrinkles and creases of the face to smooth them away temporarily. Here at Affiliated Dermatologists and Dermatologic Surgeons in Morristown, Bridgewater, and Mt. Arlington, NJ, many people are turning to Juvederm to get younger-looking skin. Find out more about what Juvederm can do for you,
How does Juvederm work?
Juvederm is a dermal filler that contains hyaluronic acid, which when injected directly into the lines and wrinkles of the skin fills them and increases volume.
Juvederm can be used on moderate to severe lines around the mouth, forehead, lips and eyes. It can also be used to plump up thinning lips.
What is the treatment process like?
During your consultation, you’ll discuss with our cosmetic dermatologist what problems you wish to fix with the help of Juvederm. We want to make sure that your treatment goals align with what Juvederm can offer you.
Since there is no surgery involved and this procedure is non-invasive the planning stage is quite simple. From there, we can perform the treatment. The treatment can take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on what area or areas of the face we are treating.
Are there side effects?
Since Juvederm consists of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already naturally occurring within our skin, this means that there are virtually no side effects or complications of getting Juvederm; however, it is common for there to be some redness, swelling or soreness at the injection sites for about a day after your treatment.
Is there a recovery process?
There is no recovery process involved in getting Juvederm. After your treatment, you can return to your regular routine.
Does it hurt?
When people hear injections they often get a bit squeamish, especially if the injections are going to be administered to the face; however, Juvederm also contains lidocaine within the solution, which helps to ease any discomfort. Furthermore, you can talk to our dermatologist about numbing the area prior to treatment to further reduce any discomfort.
When will I see results?
Unlike Botox, which can take days for results to show up, you will see results immediately with Juvederm.
How long will results last?
As with any dermal filler, the results are only temporary; however, you can expect for Juvederm results to last up to a year.

Surgery or liposuction aren't the only ways to get rid of fat under your chin. Kybella injections offer an effective alternative if you have moderate to severe fat deposits. Kybella is just one of the cosmetic procedures and treatments offered by the dermatologists at Affiliated Dermatologists in Morristown, Mt. Arlington and Bridgewater, NJ.
Kybella treatment eliminates fat cells
During Kybella treatment, deoxycholic acid is injected under your skin. The injections contain a synthetic form of the acid, which your body produces naturally to absorb fat. Exposure to the acid destroys fat cells on contact. Once the cells are gone, they can't return. The destroyed fat cells are eliminated from your body over the next two or three weeks.
Treatment is quick and effective
Kybella treatment generally takes about 15 minutes, although treatment time can vary depending on the amount of fat under your chin. Before the treatment, our dermatologist may apply a topical numbing cream to your face. After identifying and marking the treatment areas, they will inject Kybella at multiple points under your chin.
Although you'll probably begin to see a difference in your chin about a week after your first treatment, you may need several Kybella sessions for best results. Kybella treatments are usually scheduled one month apart.
After your treatment, you may notice a little redness, pain, swelling, numbness or bruising at the injection sites. These symptoms are usually mild and only last a week or two. Swelling can make the area under the chin look even larger immediately after treatment. Fortunately, swelling usually goes away within a day or two of your injections. You can resume your usual activities as soon as you leave your skin doctor's office.
Is Kybella a good choice for you?
You may be a good candidate for Kybella treatment if:
- You're 18 years old or older and in good health.
- You are unhappy with the appearance of the area under your chin.
- You have a double chin or extra fat under your chin, even though you're at a healthy weight.
- You want to avoid surgery or liposuction.
Would you like to get rid of stubborn fat under your chin without surgery? Kybella may be the perfect solution for you. Call the dermatologists at Affiliated Dermatologists in Morristown, Mt. Arlington and Bridgewater, NJ, at (973) 267-0300 to schedule an appointment.
Your dermatologist knows how to get rid of those embarrassing spider veins.
Perhaps the last time you were shaving your legs you noticed that there were some little twisted blue or purple lines running down your legs. If you were curious as to what they are, perhaps you Googled it and found out that they were spider veins. In an effort to try to get rid of them you may have even tried some of the DIY treatment options that you found such as self-massage or exercise; however, no home remedy is going to get rid of spider veins. This is a job for our Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, dermatologists.
What causes spider veins?
There are several factors that can increase your risk of developing these veins. Heredity can certain play a role (thanks, parents!) but sometimes they can be a warning of a more serious issue with the veins. Spider veins should not be confused with varicose veins even though they may develop together. Spider veins are much smaller and more superficial. Unfortunately, spider veins are something that most people will get as they get older.
Other risk factors include,
- Being overweight
- Sitting or standing for long periods of time
- Hormonal fluctuations (e.g. menopause)
How can a dermatologist get rid of spider veins?
As you may have already learned, there really isn’t anything you can do at home to get rid of spider veins once they are there. Luckily, our skin doctors offer more effective strategies for eliminating these unsightly veins for good.
One of the most effective options for getting rid of spider veins is a simple non-surgical treatment known as sclerotherapy. This procedure only takes 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area, and it involves administering injections into the veins. When this special salt solution is injected into the veins it causes a scar to form, which causes the body to redirect blood to other healthier veins. Over time, this vein will collapse and be reabsorbed by the body.
After sclerotherapy, it can take a couple of weeks or even a couple of months for the vein to completely fade away. You may also require more than one sclerotherapy session.
If you are dealing with spider veins in Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, Affiliated Dermatologists is here to help. Call us today to let us know that you are interested in getting sclerotherapy.
Enjoy a more radiant you with this nonsurgical skin resurfacing treatment.
Just because we are all getting older doesn’t mean we have to look our age. There are ways to improve the radiance and texture of aging skin that may be affected by common issues such as acne scars or sun damage. If you want to get a younger appearance but you don’t want to turn to cosmetic surgery in order to get results, then you’ll want to talk to our Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, dermatologists about whether Fraxel laser treatment is right for you.
What is Fraxel?
Fraxel is a fractional skin resurfacing treatment that improves the overall texture and tone of your skin while targeting a variety of common imperfections including,
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Dull skin
- Superficial scars
- Sun damage
- Hyperpigmentation (e.g. age spots; sun spots; melasma)
- Actinic keratosis (Scaly growths that are the result of sun exposure)
How does Fraxel work?
When the Fraxel laser is directed over your skin it will penetrate into the deeper layers of tissue in order to stimulate the production of collagen, which helps keep skin supple and firm. The fractional laser is extremely precise, only targeting the damaged skin while leaving healthy tissue untouched, which also means a faster recovery period.
Will it hurt?
Some patients report a warming sensation during treatment; however, our skin doctor will apply a topical numbing gel over the area prior to treatment. Cold air will also be directed over the treated areas during your treatment. After treatment, your skin may feel like it’s been sunburned, but this should only last a couple of hours.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the type and severity of skin problems you want to treat with Fraxel; however, it’s often recommended that you get anywhere from 1 to 5 treatment sessions performed about 2-4 weeks apart. In some cases, you may need to wait longer between treatment sessions. The treatment sessions can between 15-45 minutes.
When will I see my results?
Another benefit of Fraxel is that you will see results immediately and results will continue to improve within 2-3 months. It will take a couple of months for the body to produce enough collagen to improve the tone and texture of your skin.

Find out the best solution for treating and getting rid of warts.
Warts are benign growths that often don’t cause issues. Many people will develop a wart at some point during their lifetime, particularly children. A wart is the result of an infection caused by a virus, and it can develop just about anywhere on the body. Of course, if you deal with warts regularly or if the wart is unsightly then you may want to turn to our Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, dermatologists to find out the best way to treat it.
Leave it Alone
You may be surprised to hear that the wart will go away all by itself even without treatment. Once the body sheds the virus the wart will also disappear; however, this can take a couple of years. Therefore, if the wart is in a very visible place, is affecting your appearance or is causing discomfort then it’s time to consult with one of our skin doctors to find out the best approach for getting rid of the wart faster.
Prevent it from Spreading
It is possible for a wart to spread, so it’s important that you practice good habits to prevent the virus from spreading. For example:
- Do not pick at the wart
- Wash your hands immediately after touching your wart
- Wear protective footwear in public areas like a gym shower or locker room
Remember that while some people may find Over-the-Counter wart treatments successful not everyone will. If you’ve tried OTC treatments without success or if you are dealing with diabetes or other health issues then you’ll want to turn to a professional right away for treatment.
Professional Wart Removal
There are several methods a dermatologist can use to remove the wart. The method we use will depend on certain factors including the location of the wart. Common wart removal options include freezing it with liquid nitrogen, one of the most common methods. If this treatment doesn't work, there are other options available.
If you are dealing with warts in Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, NJ, then call Affiliated Dermatologists to find out the best approach for treating your warts and preventing them in the future.
