Spring is in the air and summer will soon be upon us. If you are looking to erase that dull winter skin, now might be the perfect time to consider microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive technique used to gently exfoliate the skin by suctioning and buffing the skin with fine crystals, deeply and thoroughly removing the upper layer of dead and damaged skin cells to reveal new, fresh skin. The suctioning stimulates collagen production and increases blood flow to the face. It is safe for all skin types and the procedure can be tailored to each individuals' skin care goals. Results are noted after just one treatment. Many patients, however, opt for a series of treatments to enhance the effects. Your complexion will appear brighter, smoother, and with a more even skin tone. Microdermabrasion can decrease fine lines and wrinkles and enhances the benefits of anti-aging products and bleaching creams, allowing them to penetrate the skin at a deeper level. Additionally, microdermabrasion can help lighten sun spots, decrease pigmentary changes, unplug pores, and treat mild acne scarring. There is little to no recovery time, making it the perfect "lunch hour" treatment. Full spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen is recommended along with sun avoidance after skin resurfacing is performed. Because microdermabrasion treats only the top layer of skin, healing time is quick and treatments can be spaced anywhere between 2 weeks and 2 months apart. So whether you are a teenager with acne, a bride with an upcoming wedding, or are simply looking for an overall healthy glow (and who isn't?), microdermabrasion may be the treatment for you.
