A skin peel can make all the difference when you’re dealing with skin that looks older, vitalize peelsworn down, and scarred. Eating right, drinking water, and exercising helps, but sometimes you need a faster solution for skin blemishes. Make time to talk to a skin doctor at Affiliated Dermatologists and Dermatologic Surgeons in Morristown, Bridgewater, and Mt. Arlington, NJ about skin cosmetic procedures, including the Vitalize Peel.

Purpose of the Vitalize Peel
The Vitalize Peel is a dermatological solution that removes layers of damaged skin in various sessions. In many cases, the skin looks worn out, wrinkled, pock-marked, and rough because of old skin cells that need to be removed. Once the peel is applied it removes the upper layers of skin so that new cells can regenerate, providing you with a younger, fresher appearance. Collagen, a protein that keeps the skin looking full and healthy, is replenished during the cell regeneration process.

Vitalize Peel Benefits
Other skin cosmetic procedures might require surgery that will cause you to take time off from work and stay out of the sun for an extended period of time. The Vitalize Peel requires minimal downtime and relatively short appointments with your Morristown, Bridgewater, and Mt. Arlington, NJ dermatologist. It helps brighten, liven, and improve the skin without the need for an invasive procedure. It also evens out the skin tone and reduces the appearance of lines in the face.

Treat Your Skin
You will likely see results in the mirror after just one Vitalize Peel session. However, you may need up to six skin peels to get the results you want. Your dermatologist will recommend a course of treatment and additional therapies that will help clear up your complexion. The Vitalize Peel is designed for patients who have mild to moderate skin imperfections, like dark marks, scars, scaly skin, roughness, and wrinkles.

How does Juvederm work?

Juvederm is a dermal filler that contains hyaluronic acid, which when injected directly into the lines and wrinkles of the skin fills them and increases volume.

Juvederm can be used on moderate to severe lines around the mouth, forehead, lips and eyes. It can also be used to plump up thinning lips.

What is the treatment process like?

During your consultation, you’ll discuss with our cosmetic dermatologist what problems you wish to fix with the help of Juvederm. We want to make sure that your treatment goals align with what Juvederm can offer you.

Since there is no surgery involved and this procedure is non-invasive the planning stage is quite simple. From there, we can perform the treatment. The treatment can take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes, depending on what area or areas of the face we are treating.

Are there side effects?

Since Juvederm consists of hyaluronic acid, a substance that is already naturally occurring within our skin, this means that there are virtually no side effects or complications of getting Juvederm; however, it is common for there to be some redness, swelling or soreness at the injection sites for about a day after your treatment.

There is no recovery process involved in getting Juvederm. After your treatment, you can return to your regular routine.

Does it hurt?

When people hear injections they often get a bit squeamish, especially if the injections are going to be administered to the face; however, Juvederm also contains lidocaine within the solution, which helps to ease any discomfort. Furthermore, you can talk to our dermatologist about numbing the area prior to treatment to further reduce any discomfort.

When will I see results?

Unlike Botox, which can take days for results to show up, you will see results immediately with Juvederm.

Surgery or liposuction aren't the only ways to get rid of fat under your chin. Kybella kybellainjections offer an effective alternative if you have moderate to severe fat deposits. Kybella is just one of the cosmetic procedures and treatments offered by the dermatologists at Affiliated Dermatologists in Morristown, Mt. Arlington and Bridgewater, NJ.

Kybella treatment eliminates fat cells

During Kybella treatment, deoxycholic acid is injected under your skin. The injections contain a synthetic form of the acid, which your body produces naturally to absorb fat. Exposure to the acid destroys fat cells on contact. Once the cells are gone, they can't return. The destroyed fat cells are eliminated from your body over the next two or three weeks.

Treatment is quick and effective

Kybella treatment generally takes about 15 minutes, although treatment time can vary depending on the amount of fat under your chin. Before the treatment, our dermatologist may apply a topical numbing cream to your face. After identifying and marking the treatment areas, they will inject Kybella at multiple points under your chin.

Although you'll probably begin to see a difference in your chin about a week after your first treatment, you may need several Kybella sessions for best results. Kybella treatments are usually scheduled one month apart.

After your treatment, you may notice a little redness, pain, swelling, numbness or bruising at the injection sites. These symptoms are usually mild and only last a week or two. Swelling can make the area under the chin look even larger immediately after treatment. Fortunately, swelling usually goes away within a day or two of your injections. You can resume your usual activities as soon as you leave your skin doctor's office.

Is Kybella a good choice for you?

You may be a good candidate for Kybella treatment if:

  • You're 18 years old or older and in good health.
  • You are unhappy with the appearance of the area under your chin.
  • You have a double chin or extra fat under your chin, even though you're at a healthy weight.
  • You want to avoid surgery or liposuction.

Would you like to get rid of stubborn fat under your chin without surgery? Kybella may be the perfect solution for you. Call the dermatologists at Affiliated Dermatologists in Morristown, Mt. Arlington and Bridgewater, NJ, at (973) 267-0300 to schedule an appointment.

Your dermatologist knows how to get rid of those embarrassing spider veins.

Perhaps the last time you were shaving your legs you noticed that there were some spider veinslittle twisted blue or purple lines running down your legs. If you were curious as to what they are, perhaps you Googled it and found out that they were spider veins. In an effort to try to get rid of them you may have even tried some of the DIY treatment options that you found such as self-massage or exercise; however, no home remedy is going to get rid of spider veins. This is a job for our Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, dermatologists.

What causes spider veins?

There are several factors that can increase your risk of developing these veins. Heredity can certain play a role (thanks, parents!) but sometimes they can be a warning of a more serious issue with the veins. Spider veins should not be confused with varicose veins even though they may develop together. Spider veins are much smaller and more superficial. Unfortunately, spider veins are something that most people will get as they get older.

Other risk factors include,

  • Being overweight
  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time
  • Pregnancy
  • Hormonal fluctuations (e.g. menopause)

How can a dermatologist get rid of spider veins?

As you may have already learned, there really isn’t anything you can do at home to get rid of spider veins once they are there. Luckily, our skin doctors offer more effective strategies for eliminating these unsightly veins for good.

One of the most effective options for getting rid of spider veins is a simple non-surgical treatment known as sclerotherapy. This procedure only takes 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area, and it involves administering injections into the veins. When this special salt solution is injected into the veins it causes a scar to form, which causes the body to redirect blood to other healthier veins. Over time, this vein will collapse and be reabsorbed by the body.

After sclerotherapy, it can take a couple of weeks or even a couple of months for the vein to completely fade away. You may also require more than one sclerotherapy session.

If you are dealing with spider veins in Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, Affiliated Dermatologists is here to help. Call us today to let us know that you are interested in getting sclerotherapy.

It’s important to know what to look out for when it comes to the early signs of melanoma.

Over the last decade, the number of melanoma cases has increased by 54 percent. Asmelanoma with any form of skin cancer, early detection is key to a good prognosis. Of course, knowing what to look for is paramount to making sure that you know when you should visit one of our Mt. Arlington, Morristown, and Bridgewater, New Jersey, dermatologists right away.

While most people are looking for those suspiciously dark moles and growths, our dermatologists also want you to be on high alert for pink lesions, as well. While they may seem harmless they could actually turn into melanoma. These lesions are better known as amelanotic melanoma, a serious form of skin cancer that often gets overlooked until it has become more visible (and also more advanced).

Our goal is to ensure that we detect these lesions early on before they spread. Our Bridgewater, NJ, skin specialists know that not all cancerous lesions look the same and we know exactly what to look for to detect these problems right away so that we can provide treatment immediately.

Other symptoms of melanoma include,

  • Sores or lesions that don’t heal
  • Moles or growths that crust, itch or bleed
  • Moles that change in texture, shape or size
  • Growths that contain multiple colors
  • Lesions or sores that are painful or tender to the touch
  • Growths and moles with asymmetrical borders

If you notice any changes in moles or any new moles that suddenly appear it’s important that you see your dermatologist right away. Even if you aren’t experiencing symptoms it’s a good idea to visit us once a year for a comprehensive skin cancer screening. Remember, anyone can develop skin cancer; however, there are certain risk factors that can increase your chances of developing melanoma. These risk factors include,

  • Excessive sun exposure
  • History of indoor tanning
  • Family history of melanoma
  • Fair skin and light hair
  • Age
  • Weakened immune system

To protect against melanoma and other forms of skin cancer it’s important that you wear sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days! Apply a water-resistant, full-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 about 20-30 minutes before going outside, and remember to reapply after sweating or swimming. Don’t forget to wear sunglasses and protective clothing to block out some of the UVA/UVB exposure. If you can wear a wide-brimmed hat, that’s even better!

Is it time to schedule your next skin cancer screening? This simple exam is completely non-invasive and only takes a few minutes. We will thoroughly examine you top to bottom to make sure that your skin looks healthy. Affiliated Dermatologists provides comprehensive skin cancer screenings to patients living in the Bridgewater, Morristown and Mt. Arlington, NJ, areas. Call us today to schedule yours.
