When you look in the mirror, does your appearance belie your feelings and your age? voluma xcSagging facial skin can make a person appear tired, upset or even angry, and can certainly make someone seem older than they are. This is a natural process that occurs with age, but some people may find that it happens more rapidly or noticeably for them. That's why at Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons, PA in Morristown, Mt. Arlington, Liberty Corner and Bridgewater, NJ, we're pleased to offer Volume XC, a revolutionary way to treat signs of aging in the cheek area. Here's how it works:

What happens as we age?

Over time, important anti-aging elements in our skin - collagen, vitamins and various acids - begin to break down. The skin loses its elasticity and ability to hold moisture; sagging and wrinkles are the result. While this is an inevitable occurrence, it can be combated with proper skin care. This includes moisturizing, sun protection and restoration of the important substances that our bodies naturally produce.

What is Voluma XC?

Voluma XC is a non-surgical treatment offered by your dermatology professionals at Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons, PA. Voluma XC contains hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body which restores plumpness by retaining moisture. When injected into the mid-face area by a dermatologist, the result is subtle, yet effective changes in the contour of the cheeks. The best part about Voluma XC? Many patients report looking at least five years younger than their actual age after treatment, and the results often last as long as 2 years.

Voluma XC is a relatively new product, so it's very important to choose licensed dermatology professionals, like the doctors at Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons, PA, to administer it. This will ensure you're receiving the highest-quality and safest treatment. To schedule a consultation, contact us in Morristown, Mt. Arlington, Liberty Corner and Bridgewater, NJ to set up an appointment. We look forward to helping you achieve your best look!

Pinpoint what might be triggering your acne outbreaks and stop acne in its tracks!

It’s amazing how many of us, from children to seniors, experience acne outbreaks. In acnefact, acne is one of the most common skin disorders. If you are dealing with acne, chances are good you are trying to find the acne treatment that is right for you. Find out what is causing your outbreaks and how our Morristown, Mt. Arlington, Liberty Corner and Bridgewater, NJ dermatologists can help.

What causes acne?

Acne is usually due to hormones, which is why teens are more likely to experience frequent or severe outbreaks. These hormones, along with bacteria found on the skin and in oil glands, result in acne.

Acne can take on many different forms from nodules and cysts to whiteheads and blackheads. While hormones and bacteria are the main causes there are certain factors that can also make acne worse:

  • Changes in hormone levels (as is typical for women during menstruation)
  • Picking or trying to pop acne
  • Wearing certain articles of clothing (e.g. hats)
  • Certain hair products (which can cause acne around the hairline)

What are my treatment options when it comes to acne?

There are several ways one of our Morristown, Mt. Arlington, Liberty Corner and Bridgewater practitioners might recommend treating your acne. There are three main medications that are most effective for reducing acne outbreaks: benzoyl peroxide, retinoids and antibiotics. Some people may be able to control their acne with just one of these treatments while others may need to use multiple treatments.

Benzoyl peroxide is usually in cleansers and acne-fighting topical medications. You can often find this solution in over-the-counter acne remedies, but we may recommend using prescription-strength benzoyl peroxide to target more severe outbreaks.

Retinoids are prescription topical gels or creams that are most often used to treat whiteheads and blackheads.

Antibiotics may either be prescribed orally or topically to reduce the amount of acne-causing bacteria on the skin and to also reduce inflammation. Antibiotics are often more efficacious when used with other treatment options.

Women whose acne is due to fluctuating hormones may also benefit from using one of the specific birth control pills that are designed to also treat hormonal acne.

Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons, PA is dedicated to giving you radiant and more beautiful skin. We offer a full range of services so that all of your skincare needs are met. If you want to find out what acne treatment is ideal for you then it’s time you scheduled a visit at our Morristown, Mt. Arlington, Liberty Corner and Bridgewater, NJ dermatology offices.

Lips that are naturally thin or which thin out with time distract from other pleasing juvadermcontours of the face. So do wrinkles and lines around the mouth and loss of fullness in the cheeks. You can overcome changes in facial shape and heavy lines and wrinkles that make you look older than you feel and act.

The answer? It could be Juvederm XC, Juvederm Ultra XC or Juvederm Voluma XC, a line of FDA-approved injectable gels which smooth wrinkles and add volume to sagging skin. The physicians at Affiliated Dermatologists & Dermatologic Surgeons in Mt. Arlington, Liberty Corner, Bridgewater and Morristown, NJ offer this FDA-approved pharmaceutical grade volumizer to qualified patients over the age of 21.

What is Juvederm?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says that the key ingredient in Juvederm, hyaluronic acid, is a highly biocompatible substance naturally found around your eyes and in the connective tissues of your body. Besides providing skin elasticity lost over time and a cushioning effect to sagging skin, hyaluronic acid is used by arthritis and orthopedic specialists to relieve joint pain.

Prepared as Juvederm, hyaluronic augments thin lips, smooths "parentheses" lines around the mouth and adds youthful volume to the cheeks. It actually cushions these areas, say plastic surgeons and dermatologists. Effects are not permanent, but they are long lasting--up to 2 years for Juvederm Voluma XC applied to the cheeks.

Side Effects

While every medical procedure carries a risk of side effects, Juvederm's are minimal, with injection site swelling, tenderness and bruising lasting 2 to 4 weeks after treatment. Many individuals qualify for treatment. However, pregnant and lactating women must postpone Juvederm treatment. Additionally, people allergic to lidocaine may not receive these injections as lidocaine is the anaesthetic contained in the gel to ease discomfort during injection.
